A year ago, the SWISS MOTTO was in full swing. This year, as is well known, it is unfortunately cancelled. This year, the organizers are reliving SWISS-MOTO with last year's highlights on Facebook and Instagram.

30 years KYBURZ Switzerland AG:
The history of PAH

Did you know that without the KYBURZ DXP, our PAH wouldn't even exist? The story began in the fall of 2007 at a live presentation of Bern's first DXP prototype. The DXP quickly found its way into the hearts of the postmen. The PAH, on the other hand, faced some bureaucratic obstacles. Please read the full report to learn more about this impressive story and the foundation of KYBURZ as we know it today.

Fleet Installation Training at WALO

WALO Bertschinger AG decided at the end of December, after a phase of intensive evaluation, to procure KYBURZ Fleet. The order includes a letter of intent for the delivery of 4000 Fleet units within 2 years for the equipment of vehicles, construction machinery, attachments, and construction containers and a firm order for 300 units. This year, a total of 700 vehicles are to be equipped. On January 12, at the kick-off in Dietikon, the various machines and vehicles' basic installation methods were jointly determined. Support & Engineering from KYBURZ Fleet then evaluated accessories, defined configurations, cable sets, and prepared installation instructions.

WALO installed our Fleet boxes with their own workshop staff. January 28th was a trial installation and installation training at the same time. The solutions developed proved to be practical. Many WALO employees already had experience in the field and knew how to place and connect GPS devices optimally.

Mario Fischer and Domas Kavoliukas were able to concentrate on optimizing and checking the work carried out. The sample installations proved to be successful. The material can be ordered. WALO aims to have the 300 vehicles and machines fully equipped by the end of April.

Object of the week:
Curtis control 1232SE

The Curtis control system in KYBURZ vehicles is the indispensable control center. Electrical signals from switches and sensors feed the controller with information processed by the software and, for example, output back to the display or the magnetic brake.

The most important function of the controller, however, is the regulation of the traction current. The batteries feed the controller with a voltage of 24 V DC. The motor receives the traction current from the controller via three AC phases. When braking or driving downhill, the motor's current flows through the control system back to the battery.

Today, the Curtis 1232SE - 24V controller is installed in new KYBURZ vehicles. This is an off-the-shelf controller, but the manufacturer, Curtis Instruments, already equips it with software tailored to KYBURZ. There are parameters that KYBURZ programs itself, for example, the maximum speed, maximum acceleration, or deceleration. The controller also stores the vehicle's data, charging operations, or error messages, and they can be read out with a PC, a handheld device, or even remotely with KYBURZ Fleet.

Good to know:
KYBURZ has been installing controls from the American family-owned company Curtis Instruments since the early 1990s. With many contact persons of the Curtis agency in Paderborn (D), personal contacts exist for over 15 or 20 years. Curtis controllers were also installed in the first moon rover of NASA's Apollo mission.

Organization Suisse Romande

The French-speaking part of Switzerland is, of course, also covered by KYBURZ. To best meet local customers' needs, our employees in western Switzerland are organized with two sales/service bases.

Coordination is the central responsibility of Cédric Leuba, who, in addition to selling to private customers and maintaining a local fleet of Swiss Post vehicles, oversees all KYBURZ activities in Western Switzerland.

His workshop and showroom are located in Fleurier in the Val de Travers (JU). The company operates under the name KYBURZ Jura. Test drive days are also held here.

The branch on Lake Geneva, "Succursale du Léman," the second base of the team, is located in Ecublens (VD) in a suburb of Lausanne. Our employee Jad Hafez is responsible for the service with private customers, the French-speaking partners' technical support, and the administrative part. Pascal Seydoux is also based in Ecublens and mainly takes care of DXP, PAH, and DXC from various post offices in this region. Pascal carries out most of the work directly on-site at the post office, which is very efficient. In this way, this small team can ensure the maintenance of more than 300 assigned postal vehicles.

Of course, our local staff can always count on the KYBURZ infrastructure based in Freienstein (ZH), be it for spare parts supply, marketing, technical support, administration, or test vehicles.

Isabelle Bassin from the Service Admin actively works in the team from Freienstein. She takes care of inquiries via phone and mail-in French, supports the team with the organization, and translates important French documents.

Off Road Shop Metzler GmbH

KYBURZ service partner

Mario Metzler, the business owner, and his team are responsible for the area of Thurgau and Turbenthal. The business is located in Frauenfeld, Thurgau. Ali Shabani interviewed Mario Metzler.

Ali Shabani: How would you describe the company Off-Road Shop Metzler in 3 sentences?

Mario Metzler: We would describe the company Off-Road Shop Metzler as innovative. We are characterized by future-oriented thinking. Quality is our top priority.

Ali: What distinguishes your company? What is special about you?

Mario: Our company has been active in off-road sports for decades. We are also specialized in the Husaberg brand, which the boss himself has been working on and collecting with great passion since 1995. Rebuilds and restorations of old American cars are part of our passion.

Ali: How long have you been KYBURZ service partners?

Mario: We have been a service partner since the beginning of 2011, but we already repaired the first postal vehicles in mid-2010. At that time, we started working with the Post because electric vehicles meant the future.

Ali: What are your tasks as a service partner?

Mario: Our tasks include all service work and repairs of the vehicles assigned to us.

Ali: How do you organize these tasks?

Mario: We drive to a different post office every day. However, the days when we drive to which post office are planned so that the people responsible for the vehicles also know. 90% of the tasks can be done on-site, thanks to our fully equipped workshop bus. In the case of rust or major violent damage, we take the vehicles to use in the workshop to have it thoroughly done as quickly as possible.

Ali: How many vehicles / which area are you responsible for?

Mario: We look after just under 300 vehicles. Our area includes a large part of the canton of Thurgau up to Turbenthal.

Ali: What do you do when you are not repairing DXPs?

Mario: Since we are specialized in Off-Road, we repair everything from Quad to Supermoto, Enduro, and Motocross like Husaberg, KTM, Husqvarna, Sherco, etc. Besides, we have various brand representations.

In our spare time, a lot of things revolve around the business. That's why our children grow up with vehicles and sport. Thus it comes also times to the fact that a DXP is rebuilt or beautified.

Larger box for the KYBURZ DXP AU (2021)

To meet the constantly growing number of parcels and other Australia Post requirements, the existing box on the DXP AU was extended by 10 cm by our developers Stefan Niederberger and Oliver Zimmermann. This has increased the box's volume by approx. 18%. In this way, Australia Post will increase the efficiency of deliveries in the future.

The longer box has to be approved by the Australian regulatory authority (similar to the Swiss ASTRA) before putting it on the road. Our box is expected to make the long journey there this week.

After careful and successful testing, 1000 ordered DXP AU's approval will be given to us, and we can start with the production.

15.02.2021, ADB

Do you have any questions about the box? Stefan Niederberger will be happy to answer them.

Good to know:

The yellow sheet material is produced in Australia. Our Swiss supplier orders this and has it delivered to its producer in China. This sends the finished boxes and bags to Switzerland, where they are rechecked by the supplier and then delivered to us on time. After our assembly, these boxes and bags then go (back) to our customer in Australia.

New employee at KYBURZ

Oliver Matthews joins the Electronics team at Industriestrasse with immediate effect. He has worked for a long time in aviation in various positions and most recently managed a company that develops flight simulators.

Please welcome him! Especially in the home office, it is important that the few still working in the office pass on our team spirit to the new employees.

Already gargled today?

Saltwater gargle, a simple home remedy, has disinfecting, anti-inflammatory, decongestant, antibacterial, and strengthens the immune system!

What is gargling?

Prolonged rinsing of the mouth and throat with a special liquid.

How does salt water gargling work?

Completely dissolve one teaspoon of salt in 250 ml of lukewarm water.

Take a sip of the saltwater solution in your mouth. Lay your head on the back of your neck so that the liquid enters your throat. Hold your breath and start gargling. Before inhaling, stop gargling.

Gargle with the gargling liquid for about 5 minutes - a maximum of 6 times a day.

Did you know that you can also rinse your nose with saltwater? This helps, for example, when you have a cold. Different nasal douches are available in the pharmacy/drugstore.

Nasal rinsing has a long tradition. In yoga, it is called Jala Neti (nasal irrigation). It is an ancient Indian method.

Keeping an eye on the media

The media regularly report on KYBURZ and KYBURZ products. Over 20 articles have appeared so far in 2021 (as of 19.02.2021) in which KYBURZ is mentioned or takes center stage. Why do we know this?

KYBURZ commissioned the company "Argus Data Insights" to conduct media monitoring. "Argus" in Greek mythology was a giant with a hundred eyes who could see everything. Argus sees, finds, and sends us all media reports from Swiss media in which KYBURZ appears, whether printed, on radio, or TV. In the past, professional newspaper readers did this work, but today much of it is done electronically.

Last week an article about our Last2nd design pieces appeared in the Zürcher Unterländer. A large picture on the front page pointed to the report. The partner papers Zürcher Oberländer, Zürichsee-Zeitung, and Landbote, took over the text and printed it.

In the French-language Revue Automobile, a portrait of KYBURZ appeared in a series on Swiss automakers. The German-language edition, the Automobil Revue, translated the portrait and also published it.

19.02.2021, DH

Good to know:
If we had had to pay for the space in which KYBURZ was reported in Swiss newspapers and magazines in 2020 as advertisements, this would have cost us an amount of more than CHF 100,000. This comparison is only an estimate because editorial articles in newspapers and magazines are more credible than advertisements.

KYBURZ DXP AU on a special stamp

Australia Post is launching a stamp series to honor those who have done extraordinary things during this unusual time. Entitled "Front Line Heroes," the series features portraits by Robert Elliott of various professions who risked their own health to ensure that Australian society continued to function despite the effects of Covid-19.

We are very pleased that our KYBURZ DXP AU has made it onto the stamp as a symbol of the Australian Postal Service. It seems that our vehicles are perceived as part of the daily street scene in Australia, just as they are in Switzerland with our DXPs.

A day in the life of Martin Mathis

Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?

Martin Mathis: I have been with KYBURZ for 7 years.

Erza: What are your activities?

Martin: I work in almost all departments, such as development, electronics, 2ndLife, and events. So to speak the all-rounder for everything new, special, and unforeseen, I help out. Often so much is created in a short time. I'm mainly responsible for the mechanical side of things and always jump in wherever there's a need.

Erza: What is your typical daily routine?

Martin: My daily routine is mostly unplanned from morning to evening. I start at about 07:15 and work until about 16:30. Martin Kyburz tells me roughly where I should help and where less. Otherwise, I always find a lot of work to do.

Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?

Martin: I like the great variety because of the different departments I work in. This means I know every single product and almost all the employees.
What I like less at the moment are the many locations. Since I change departments a lot, this is simply tedious and time-consuming.

Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?

Martin: In my free time I like to travel, often to rather unusual countries, and I prefer to travel there by car on big road trips. I also paraglide and fly model airplanes.

Erza: How did it come about that you are going to work for KYBURZ in Thailand soon?

Martin: In 2018, I was in Thailand with friends to fly UAV Drones. That's how I met Thomas Lüscher (CEO Kyburz Asia), and we got along very well. Through him, I was able to work for Kampon (eRod customer) as a car mechanic for exceptional sports vehicles for two months after my world trip. In a few weeks, I will fly to Thailand again, this time for KYBURZ to set up a production of tricycles on site.

Erza: What do you like about Thailand?

Martin: I like Thailand a lot because it is diversified. It is mixed like the 1st and 3rd world. On the one hand, technically highly modern and on the other hand, the elementary and adventurous life.

Easier charging thanks to the charging cable retractor. With the 5 meters long cable, you can find a suitable socket anywhere. The placement for this is in the helmet compartment, this has a little less space, but there is no cable mess. The charging cable reel can be retrofitted to all DXP up to 5.0, all DXS, and DX2. The charging cable retractor is available in our webshop for CHF 430.- incl. VAT.

New functions in the protocol editor

There is a button at the top of the protocol editor to format the line as "bold" or to highlight it in yellow.

Since the yellow highlights are usually used to mark new entries in the log, the highlights are not copied to the new log when a log is copied. The formatting as "bold" is always copied as well.

Besides, there is now the possibility to mark several lines (tick on the left side of the line). The marked lines can then all be reformatted or deleted together.

The buttons for the new functions are located at the top of the protocol editor.

New mobile workshop: Mercedes Sprinter

Last Tuesday, February 16, 2021, our new mobile workshop arrived at our premises, a Mercedes Sprinter. From the beginning of March, our service mechanics will be on the road with the vehicle throughout Switzerland. Thanks to the built-in workshop, the vehicles no longer have to be transported from the customer to Freienstein and back. This will increase efficiency and reduce waiting times for customers.

Almost all repairs can be done on-site, even in bad weather and cold temperatures.

The vehicle is currently being equipped with fleet and workshop equipment. As soon as the mobile workshop is in operation, we will report on it again.
