Fresh air is important for all of us
According to current research, viruses, including the Corona virus, are mainly transmitted through bad air. When we breathe out, we spread aerosols. Viruses enter the air through these aerosols. Regular ventilation reduces the amount of aerosols in the air and thus the risk of infection. For this reason, we are in the process of installing CO2 meters throughout the company.
Make sure that the CO2 level in the air stays below 800 ppm. The meters are set to sound a warning tone at 1000 ppm. At the latest then, the room must be well ventilated.
Find out about the details of "proper ventilation" in the attached leaflet.

Object of the week: Servo brake
In 1999: The young woman with muscle disease wanted to buy a KYBURZ CLASSIC. However, her strength was not sufficient for a full stop. This is too dangerous with the fast model, only 12 km/h is too slow for the fun-loving woman. Martin Kyburz describes the problem to the then developer Stefan Rittler, who presents a solution with a mechanical servo brake within a few days.
Pulling the brake lever actuates the drum brake of the front wheel. The brake shoes are mounted on the armature plate. The dynamic force of the front wheel causes the armature plate to rotate slightly. This rotation generates the pull on the brake strands of the rear wheel brakes. Today, the servo brake works when driving forwards and backwards. When stationary, i.e. when the front wheel is not turning, there is no braking force on the rear wheels.

Good to know:
The customer drove the vehicle with the first servo brake for almost 20 years! KYBURZ has been installing the mechanical servo brake system on all tricycles for years. It is not known that other manufacturers use a comparable system.

Duxon AG
Service partner KYBURZ
Duxon AG is a special service partner. They are responsible for about 130 vehicles and are also our supplier for electronic components. Ali exchanged a few words with them.
Ali Shabani: How would you describe Duxon AG in 3 sentences?
Sascha Bär: Duxon AG, located in Tuggen SZ, is a service provider in the field of industrial electronics. Thanks to reliable electronic assemblies from Duxon, the mail arrives punctually in our mailboxes every day. We maintain a close relationship with our customers and, thanks to our manageable company size, we are very flexible in all matters and, of course, ISO 9001-2015 certified. With Duxon AG, you are choosing an innovative, flexible and reliable industrial electronics service provider with top service performance for KYBURZ electric vehicles.
Ali: What distinguishes your company, what is special about you?
Sascha: I would like to emphasise the relatively wide range of services. In addition to the assembly of printed circuit boards, we also offer complete component assembly and extensive service work. We also master welding work of many materials with our equipment and personnel in optimal quality. Our employees are very motivated and versatile, not least because the work as a whole and also thanks to KYBURZ is interesting and varied.
Ali: How long have you been KYBURZ service partners?
Sascha: The first repaired KYBURZ vehicles rolled out of our workshop in October 2016. So that will soon be 4½ years. However, our business relationship with KYBURZ goes back much further, as we have been allowed to manufacture and supply electronic components and certain sub-assemblies for KYBURZ vehicles for over 10 years, and to refresh and repair "field failures".
Ali: How do you organise these tasks? Do you do a lot of the work on site?
Sascha: We plan the assignments according to need and their priority. If circumstances allow, we always choose the route so that we can go to several post offices at once - this saves time and conserves resources at the same time. In emergencies, however, we are always flexible and well equipped for vehicle recovery. We have set ourselves the goal of ensuring that the post offices we serve always have operationally reliable and functioning vehicles to deliver the mail. In order to be able to carry out as much work as possible on site, we have a service bus that is well equipped with spare parts and tools. We use it to drive to the post offices and are thus able to carry out most of the work on site. We then repair the more difficult cases "in-house" in our workshop.
Ali: How many vehicles / which area are you responsible for?
Sascha: We currently look after 132 powered vehicles and 123 trailers from 7 post offices, which are stationed in Wädenswil, Pfäffikon SZ, Siebnen, Einsiedeln, Niederurnen, Ennenda and Schwanden. In addition, there are also vehicles belonging to private individuals, which we are always happy to spruce up with a lot of passion.
Ali: What do you do when you're not repairing DXPs?
Sascha: Since the DXPs are on the road in the morning, that's when we have the most time to do administrative work. This includes cost estimates, invoices and orders. The equipment also has to be maintained on an ongoing basis in order to guarantee a consistently high level of quality. In addition to my work as a service manager, I also work in the AVOR department at Duxon AG. I certainly don't get bored.
Ali: I've seen that you're an absolute car fan. Tell me something about it.
Sascha: Vehicles, especially cars, have always fascinated me. Even as a primary school pupil, I liked to visit my father in the car workshop on Wednesday afternoons when I didn't have to go to school, to learn from his craft. Since the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I also like to screw/weld for life and therefore often spend time in my small, private workshop.

Our Z'BRUKY
Martin Mathis noticed that almost new or well-preserved material was being disposed of in the waste disposal bin, which could be used by another department. This is how the idea of an internal Brockis came about. Luca Botta helped to implement the idea. In the beginning, it was a bit slow, but in the meantime, one or the other item has found a new owner. The expansion with private items has also gradually manifested itself. If you are interested, you can find ZBRUKY in the 2ndLife section right next to the web shop. Drop by from time to time and help yourselves. It has as long as it has! You are also welcome to feed it. Bring things you have to let go of with a heavy heart and less the dust catchers you've been wanting to get rid of for years ;-)

Martin Mathis in quarantine in Bangkok
Having arrived in Bangkok to support the subsidiary KYBURZ ASIA, I am now in quarantine for a fortnight. I'll tell you here how this is going.
Check-in in Zurich went normally. The only special thing is that the airport was almost deserted and only about 15 flights took off after 4 pm that day. At the gate itself, all documents were checked, the passenger next to me was not allowed on board because his documents were not correct... Okay does not exactly encourage. Because for the entry you need
- Fit to fly certificate
- Quarantine Hotel for 14 days
- PCR Covid Test
- Thai COVID app
- Travel insurance incl. Covid 19 up to min 100 000USD
- And another healthy document
The flight was filled with about 40 people - in a wide-bodied aircraft, this was very pleasant.
On arrival in Bangkok, everything is very well and strictly organised. After leaving the plane, you sit down on chairs in front of the control stations. Once you have all your documents, they are checked at three checkpoints. You can almost never move around on your own. An airport staff member in full protective clothing is always nearby. We took the taxi organised by the hotel, which was also "decorated" in Covid style, to the hotel.
Once we arrived at the hotel, we had to disinfect our shoes and put on our plastic flip-flops. The room is very modern and pleasantly furnished. Plenty of water, drinks (no alcohol) and snacks are provided. But what is surprising is that you are only allowed to leave the room for the first time after seven days: for 40 minutes a day to the pool, but not in the pool.
The doorbell rings three times a day: if you open it, no one is there, but the food is ready on a small table. Tastes very good, by the way. Thomas Lüscher knows the general manager of this hotel and wrote him a nice e-mail asking if it was possible to have a beer delivered to the hotel. However, no exception was made. This is called the "never try, never know" method in Thailand ;-)
On the whole, it is pleasant here, but for a very long time. In return, you can look forward to a daily routine with almost no covid measures. Everything is open in Thailand, only masks are still mandatory.

Willst du Martin die Wartezeit verkürzen?
A day in the life of Andreas Künzle
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Andreas Künzle: I have been with KYBURZ for 6 years. First I was employed in production as a mechanic and after about 3 - 4 years I was taken on by Hanspeter Wepfer in the fleet team.
Erza: What are your activities?
Andreas: I work in the Fleet department as a supporter. My focus is on communication. Simply put: unhappy people call me, I listen to them, look for a solution and then help them to be happy again. Of course, I have many other tasks, but I don't want to bore readers with details.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Andreas: I usually start work between 07:30 and 08:00. At the moment I work in a home office. Although I don't have a commute, I still don't manage to start earlier. The first thing I do is check my emails, look at our ticket system and prioritise tasks according to urgency. For normal requests or known problems, I answer directly. For more difficult cases, we usually find a solution after consultation with the team. As soon as the new tickets are answered, I check the daily fleet reports. If all the data in the reports are correct, I am happy. If this is not the case, I have to generate and send the report again manually - then I am unhappy. This rarely happens, but it is extremely time-consuming every time. The rest of the day's work is always broken up by requests like: Hans has forgotten his password again, Vreni wants her vehicle to be called "The Fluffy Flash" and Köbi wants an Excel file with all vehicles, licence plates and kilometres driven. Almost every day I work until 5 p.m., sometimes it can be later.
Erza: What do you like? What not so much?
Andreas: I like contact with people because it is easy for me. I am also on a first-name basis with most of our clients or prospective clients. What I like less is when I have a problem and can't solve it myself. Or when I can't answer a question immediately or the question doesn't belong to my area of responsibility.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Andreas: In my free time I like to go fishing. I also like to learn new things - that can be anything. For example, Carmen gave me an aquarium and I'm learning how an ecosystem keeps itself in balance. In case Carmen wonders if the aquarium is set up: completion Q4, 2021! I also like to read, but not books - mostly articles, about almost everything, such as: medicine, geopolitics (the Chinese are making the running!) or about fighter jets, to advise Hans-Peter Erni. I am a smorgasbord of useless knowledge. Yes, and I love to cook, I'm good at that too. All those who have been cooked for by me so far have fond memories of the experience.
Finally, I would like to thank Erza for the interview, a great honour!
