A lowerable trailer for the DXP
Internal company transports with electric vehicles are commonplace at KYBURZ. Until now, there was no satisfactory solution for heavy goods. Heinz Romer has a solution: the lowerable trailer for KYBURZ vehicles.
The suspension and the overrun brake come from a postal trailer. The manually operated hydraulic system is a commercial item. The superstructure is homemade. "The placement of the suspension strut was a tough nut to crack" explains Heinz. He cracked it!
The lower backs of the KYBURZ employees thank him. Goods no longer have to be lifted for loading. With the loading platform lowered, they are pulled onto the platform. The prototype does not yet have a name, but there are already many ideas for how it can be used:
In nurseries, plant pots could be moved...
Tyres could be easily transported in garages...
At KYBURZ, chassis have been transported so far.
Further ideas are welcome!

Object of the week: Stabiliser
To ensure that KYBURZ vehicles do not lean too firmly to one side when cornering, they are equipped with a stabiliser - to prevent these so-called rolling movements. The part made of bent round steel acts on the upper wishbones of the rear axle.
In a curve, the suspension is compressed on the outside of the curve. On the inside of the curve, however, there is a relief. The vehicle tilts outwards. This is unfavourable for the vehicle stability and the driving experience is unpleasant. The anti-roll bar connects the suspensions of both sides and reduces the unequal load. The quite massive round steel acts like a spring and is bent for a short time.
Since the same loads are applied on the left and right when driving straight ahead, the stabiliser then has no function and is not effective in pitching movements.
Good to know:
The stabiliser system is common in the car industry. Our IVECO TurboDailys are equipped with a clearly visible stabiliser. Look under the van from behind and you will immediately discover the bent metal bar behind the rear axle.

EcoVadis
Our certification on EcoVadis
EcoVadis is an online platform in the field of social responsibility and sustainability. Swiss Post invited all its suppliers to join the platform in 2018. Since then, we have continuously uploaded our most recent documents and information on our efforts in the areas of the environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement to the platform. EcoVadis reviews and evaluates this information and issues KYBURZ with a certificate based on it. This provides information on how well we perform compared to other companies. The certificate can then be viewed by other companies. In this way, EcoVadis contributes to transparency in this important area.

Good to know:
We are listed with the "Silver" award on the EcoVadis platform. This puts us in the top 25% of all registered companies on the platform.
Pachi down-under
Did you know that the Pachi also exists in Australia?
In April 2018, Flurin Vicentini had programmed a very rudimentary system on the flight to Australia, based on the Pachi model, in order to be able to manage the 100 vehicles that were in Australia at the time more easily. At the time, this system was intended as a temporary solution. Nevertheless, the system remained in use in Australia for a long time and Joel Stanzione eventually hired Claudio Realini to build a full-fledged ERP out of this temporary utility. In the process, Claudio also took some parts from the Pachi in Switzerland, improved them and adapted them for Australia.
The work processes with the Australian Post and the local service partners are very different from Switzerland. Therefore, KYBURZ Pty got its own system and the data is stored on Australian soil - an important criterion in the data protection law there. Of course, the system frontend is fully in English.
The Australian Pachi includes vehicles, purchasing, sales, items, service, CRM and finance. It was programmed directly on the new Pachi 3 standard and runs on FileMaker 18 technology. The structure and layouts were adapted to the Swiss counterpart. This means that KYBURZ employees can quickly find their way around both systems. We went live with the revised version on 1 August 2020 after a one-year development period.
By the way, we will probably give the system a slightly more "Australian" name. You'll hear more about that soon...

We wish "All the best"
Franz Daxinger has finished his six-month internship in research. Among many other projects, he has worked on mechanical and control engineering issues for autonomous vehicles. He will continue his studies and complete a Master's degree.
Jürg Geiser joined KYBURZ as a salesman and then first assisted in setting up production at Tannenstrasse. After that, his focus was on municipal, commercial and industrial customers. The originally planned international activity was his last area of operation.
Daniel Läng only worked for a short time at KYBURZ in strategic purchasing.
We wish all three good health, much success and satisfaction in the future!

Customers recruit customers
Did you know that our KYBURZ customers are rewarded when they refer a new customer to us?
Our customers certainly like to tell their neighbours, acquaintances or relatives about the new independence and mobility they have gained through their KYBURZ vehicle. So why not earn an extra CHF 250 at the same time? When buying a vehicle, every customer can indicate a possible interested party with the intermediary talon and send it to us. If the potential buyer is not yet known and a sale results, the agent is rewarded with CHF 250. There is no easier way to earn CHF 250!

Martin Mathis in Quarantine in Bangkok: Part 2
The two-week quarantine is now over.
How did I feel about this time here in a hotel room? Actually, exactly as I imagined it, as I knew exactly what I was getting myself into.
The first week went by quite easily, as I mostly knew how to keep myself busy. From the second week onwards, the "courtyard walk" was added, meaning that I was allowed to go to the pool for 40 minutes every day - but not in the pool. This somewhat interrupts the time in the room and makes the day more entertaining. During the whole two weeks, I was stuck in the European time zone. I didn't get up until about 12 am and went to bed at 2 am. In fact, I trained myself to sleep 10 - 11 hours a day. By the way, the "Metal Earth" kits are suitable as a quarantine hobby. They are really cool and very detailed. The kits are available in various models.
I have just heard that from April/May the quarantine period will be reduced to 8 days, which would make sense. Because in this hotel (Park Plaza Bangkok), since the introduction of the quarantine a year ago, not a single positive case has occurred, although the hotel was mostly full of incoming travellers from all over the world.
In the meantime, Martin has ended his quarantine and is allowed to move freely in Thailand.

M.S.R Sàrl
Service partner KYBURZ
Eric Nève: How would you describe the company M.S.R in 3 sentences?
Sylvain Dupraz: M.S.R was created to cover the service network in the Geneva region for Swiss Post. We opened on 1 January 2021. As a basis, 3 employees participated in the KYBURZ partner training. Sebastian and Vincent are our technicians for KYBURZ vehicles. A third person takes care of the administrative tasks as a backup. Our 40 m2 workshop is equipped with two vehicle lifts, which allows us to work efficiently.
Eric: What distinguishes your company, what is special about you?
Sylvain: That everything is new! We can do mechanical work, but also bodywork. This also allows us to look after and repair Swiss Post vans. "Everything under one roof!" We can therefore offer Swiss Post a complete range of services.
Eric: How long have you been a KYBURZ service partner?
Sylvain: Last year we signed the contract with KYBURZ with the aim of being operational by 1 January 2021. Our technicians were trained at the end of the year so that they too would be operational from the beginning of the year. The spare parts stock was also replenished so that customers can be served without breakdowns already at the beginning of the year.
Eric: What are your tasks as a service partner?
Sylvain: We are committed to ensuring that Swiss Post maintains a smooth operation with KYBURZ vehicles and enable them to remain mobile without breakdowns.
Eric: How do you organise the tasks? Do you carry out the work on-site?
Sylvain: We visit the different post offices every fortnight. This allows us to cover the regular service needs of the vehicles. Of course, we also take care of unforeseen events, such as repairs after an accident. We have a breakdown service for this case.
Eric: How many vehicles and what area are you responsible for?
Sylvain: We cover the area around Geneva. We are responsible for around 700 KYBURZ vehicles.
Eric: What do you do when you are not repairing DXPs?
Sylvain: Besides DXP's, we repair Rénault and MAN vehicles. We ourselves have a Rénault electric company vehicle and use it for our service tours.
Eric: What else is there to say?
Sylvain: The fascination with mechanical work also accompanies me in my free time. I also ride motocross myself and have founded the Swiss MX Academy, whose aim is to accompany the young people of the Geneva Motocross Club. That's why I travel a lot on weekends in Switzerland, France and Italy.

A day in the life of Matthias Röthlin
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Matthias Röthlin: Soon 5 years, my first day of work was at the open day in September 2016.
Erza: What are your activities?
Matthias: I am responsible for the spare parts service and the product range. I mainly take care of international customers. I am also responsible for the maintenance of the online shops and new products. In addition, I take care of the condition of our fleet of company vehicles. I have school for 1 ½ day a week, but I work 100%.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Matthias: In the morning, I always make sure that our daily business is running smoothly. I enter offers and orders in Pachi, which come in through various channels. I am also involved in the maintenance of the article master and the price calculation. For new customers or simply on request, I create vehicle and customer-specific spare parts & price lists.
Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?
Matthias: I really like the working atmosphere in the company; especially in the service team, of course. I also like the fact that we are allowed to use certain infrastructure on request. The flexibility of the company in terms of working hours, days off and home office is also very advantageous as a family man.
I find the splitting of the locations very unfortunate, it reduces personal contact in other departments and makes certain processes more difficult.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Matthias: I spend my free time with my family and friends. In summer, we often spend the weekend at our campsite on the Rhine. I also repair and maintain various vehicles and machines privately.
