Photo of the week: ePedelec - Field test at Deutsche Post AG
This week the last four of a total of 10 KYBURZ ePedelec will be delivered to Deutsche Post. From Munich to Hamburg, from Karlsruhe to Berlin, i.e. right across the German states, the chainless driven postal delivery vehicles will undergo a long-term field test. With a happy atmosphere, 9 vehicles of the pilot series were lined up in a row and photographed for the latest issue of the company newspaper before delivery to the neighboring country. A total of 15 vehicles will be produced - three copies for further customers at home and abroad and two more for testing and certification of European guidelines.

The first test drive with the electric boat
Friday the 13th - a perfect day to do the first test drive of the DXB H1, the boat converted to electric drive. Not always everything has to go wrong on Friday the 13th. Because the first test drive was a success!
The idea for the DXB H1 came from Heinz Romer. He has invested many hours in the implementation over the past weeks. Now the time had finally come - the boat could be watered in and tested. The team of six used the sunny day to do the first test on the wakeboard natural pond of the Lieni Park. And with full success! For a speedboat, it's not quite enough with 9 km/h at a speed of 4'300, but the comfortable ride with a coffee is covered.
The team was thrilled and enjoyed the rides. With our Power to Roll and a coffee machine on board, the passengers could even enjoy a coffee. The team was thrilled and did not let the good mood be spoiled by the small discovered mistake. Because the boat steered the wrong way. Now the tinkerers know what they can work on to make the next trip even more perfect. We are curious to see how this project will continue and we are happy to accompany it here in the company newspaper. Congratulations to Heinz Romer and the team on this successful day!

Ve-Zero - what our customer makes of his eRods
Philippe Chalot, an eRod customer from France, has converted his eRod to the "Ve-ZERO". He wants to launch this vehicle, which is based on eRod parts, in the USA.
The design of the Ve-ZERO is adapted to the taste from the other side of the Atlantic and reminds of a Ford of the 1930s.
The hood hints at a big V8, but this is actually an electric vehicle - 0-cylinder, 0-emission. The body and upholstery can be customized in terms of colors and materials. Every vehicle is unique!

Test drive of the new Mercedes-Benz electric commercial vehicles
This week some employees had the opportunity to test drive the Mercedes-Benz electric commercial vehicles. Two models were available: the eSprinter and the EQV. There was some feedback: Matthias Röthlin said after the test drive with the eSprinter: "It's great to drive - but the performance is not comparable to a 3-liter turbo-diesel". Willy Federer's feedback on the EQV: "Congratulations - finally an electric large-capacity vehicle with some range."
Where all test drivers agreed is that the driving experience is great and you feel safe in the new Mercedes-Benz e-commercial vehicles.

You probably know all our offices in Australia, but do you know what it looks like there? Martin Mathis was in Melbourne last year with Joel Stanzione and Jennifer Imboden and he insisted on making a cool movie about the company.

Object of the week: LED front light
All KYBURZ tricycles are equipped with an LED lamp at the front. The shape-outside is drawn by KYBURZ. The interior, i.e. the light source and the lenses were developed and certified by the manufacturer Jute in Taiwan.
The cooperation with Jute exists for many years (when visiting Taiwan Martin Kyburz, Fabian Hächler, and our Taiwanese partner Louis Ko still wear red CLASSIC shirts).
In 2020 alone, KYBURZ has ordered more than 3500 LED lamps, which are produced especially for us. LED lamps to consume less electricity than the halogen lamps used before, last longer but are more expensive.
Want an example?
A DXS (consumption 6 kWh/100 km) needs 0.528 kWh electricity from Freienstein to the fir road and back.
With this electricity, a halogen lamp shines for about 15 hours. The new LED front lamp even shines for 24 hours with the same amount of electricity. The light is similar to daylight and therefore our eyes perceive this light brighter than the light of a light bulb.

DXCargo for the Swiss Post
Over the past three years, Swiss Post has intensively tested our DXCargo in various test deployments. This year we received the first order of 150 units. These have already been produced in Embrach, now they will be delivered step by step. Congratulations to the development and production, a new product is running on our serial production line.

50 DXCargos for Posti Finland
The wait for the EU CoC (Certificate of Conformity) is over. Our partner Logisnext in Finland was able to start last week with the delivery of 50 DXCargos for Posti. The cargos were equipped with spiked wheels to meet the weather conditions in Finland. We wish Posti much fun and success with our super product.

new video call system in our meeting room «besprechen»
This week the sales meeting of the Business to Business salesmen took place. This meeting is held quarterly. During this meeting, the B2B team is informed about the latest news regarding figures, sales, addresses, turnover, ranking, statistics, and innovations. The next quarter is also discussed.
Since everything is a little different this year, two participants were present via video call from outside the company. Luca Botta made adjustments to our sound technology for this purpose. The meeting room «besprechen» is already equipped with the «Logitech Meet up» and has now been supplemented by the «Sennheiser Team Connect Ceiling 2». The microphone enables a clean and interference-free sound transmission. The two remote participants Wilf and Peter could even hear the mice nibbling on the cheese.

Crash course in electric mobility for Mercedes salesmen
The first electric commercial vehicles (e.g. Sprinter) from Mercedes-Benz will be on sale in the next few days. However, the sales and after-sales staff are not yet familiar with electric vehicles.
This Schwendimann of "System Alpenluft" has now infected employees of MERBAG in a crash course with the electric driving virus. To increase the infection rate they visited KYBURZ. Martin Kyburz explained them among other things battery recycling.
Now they should sell many electric Mercedes with knowledge, conviction and above all enthusiasm!

Online Exhibition eBiss
Actually, last week the eBiss fair was supposed to take place in Helsinki. But since there are no fairs at the moment, eBiss has looked for a new way and changed the whole thing online. Wilfried Hahn participated in this fair, which took place in the form of a zoom meeting.
We presented ourselves with further development of our DXP 5.2 AU-RR. This DXP is intended for the very bad roads in the rural areas of Australia. The presentation was very well received.
The vehicle is a test vehicle. The actual series product will be finished by our development department if the customer wishes this further development. The earliest date for this is 2022.
However, a big topic of this show was the influence of the Covid-19 situation on the business and what has changed.
The conclusion: Covid-19 accelerates the development towards more online shipping and forces the postal service to act quickly. The items can handle this to varying degrees. The trend "more parcel - less letter" is clear and is accelerating for most. It is assumed that the Covid-19 effect with more online shopping will remain and hardly decrease.

Health tip
In times of the rampant coronavirus, it is especially important to strengthen our immune system.
How do I do this?
- A balanced diet with lots of fruit and vegetables
- Sunlight / stay outside (in case of deficiency there is the possibility to help with vitamin D)

- Reduce stress
A strengthened psyche is also part of it. In the coming issues, I will introduce you to one of the so-called ten steps to mental health.
Today we will start with the first step. Here, relaxation plays an important role. Consciously take a little time out and relax. Here are a few tips that can help you.
- Listen to music and close your eyes
- Watch a funny movie
- Put yourself in your imagination in your favorite place
- Listening in the morning relaxes to the singing of the birds
- Wrap yourself up warmly and lie down in the garden/balcony in a deckchair in the winter sun
- Take a media break and put the phone aside for a while
The tips are unlimited expandable, let your imagination and creativity run wild ;-) and now have fun with the implementation.

Nina paired up
«Nina» is the nickname of the young lady with extraordinary abilities. KYBURZ PLUS2 Autonomous is her full name.
Nina has a distinctive sensorium built-in. Especially on the roof, the sensors are easy to recognize. Whoever observes Nina and her creators from a distance from time to time knows that the vehicle has quite a lot to offer on its own.

Martin Kyburz at the Credit Suisse Unternehmerkongress 2020
At the invitation of Credit Suisse, Martin was interviewed on the subject of "Mastering volatile times with agility". Due to the corona situation, congress took place virtually. The lectures and interviews were recorded in a studio and broadcast live via a website.
The session, which was preceded by a presentation by Dr. Simone Wyss Fedele, CEO Switzerland Global Enterprise, can be seen in the adjacent video.

Did you know that we have a house cat?
May I introduce - our house cat Kyburzine. You probably think that I am joking, but that is not so. She greets us every morning and can hardly wait to get her food. Afterward, she likes to sleep in the office. You can usually find her in our marketing, office, or accounting departments. We share the "custody" together with our neighbor Sonja Steigrad.
The story behind it: Kyburzine is a stray cat. About 8 years ago someone worked with us who also lived on the premises. When he moved away, the cat could not leave the area and decided to stay. Since then Sonja has taken care of the cat. About 3 years ago she started to make regular visits to the office of the current marketing department. At that time the sales and marketing departments were still located in this office. Nadia Lombardi has started to take care of the cat. It was soon clear that she needed a name, so we lovingly named her Kyburzine. Meanwhile, the care for her has become very well established and Kyburzine has found a great new place.

A day in the life of Yunus Ruff
Erza Mehmeti: How long have you been with KYBURZ?
Yunus Ruff: I have only been working at KYBURZ since August 2020.
Erza: What are your activities?
Yunus: I work in service electronics and development. I check the returns we receive from our service partners and see why for example the turn signal is broken. If damage occurs often, we take a closer look and try to find a solution so that it doesn't happen again. In this way, we constantly improve our products. I also help in development, if you need my help with a job or I make different cables.
Erza: What is your typical daily routine?
Yunus: I arrive every morning at about 07.50 and check my emails first. Then I check which department needs my help. Then I go to work that needs my help. I also take over the phone when Jenny, my supervisor, has a meeting. There I help the service partners who have a problem and try to solve the problem with them. Once a day I check the warehouse to see if something needs refilling and once a week I make the returns.
Erza: What do you like? What do you like less?
Yunus: What I like most about technology is that I am very close to technical things that interest me. I also like the team with Jenny and the service. We always have new situations and new problems that we/ I try to solve as best as possible. Also, you always have to deal with new people on the phone. What I don't like much is that sometimes you are at the same work for too long, because there is not always good communication with the service partners, because we don't always know exactly what is broken and where the mistake is.
Erza: What do you like to do in your free time?
Yunus: I go bouldering regularly, you climb without a rope at low altitude. I also like playing drums, guitar, piano, accordion, and singing.
Erza: You participated in the Swiss Skills 2020, can you tell me more about it?
Yunus: The Swiss Skills are the Swiss Skills Championships, which are held every two years. They serve as preliminary rounds for the World Skills, i.e. professional world championships. Swiss Skills are held for different professions. From horticulturists to computer scientists, everyone is involved. I participated there in the discipline "Industry 4.0" and won first place. This means that I will participate in the World Championships in Shanghai in 2022.
Erza: Industry 4.0, what is that exactly?
Yunus: I have completed my apprenticeship as an automation engineer. In automation, we build and program industrial machines. Industry 4.0 is a new branch of automation with a focus on computer science. The goal is to let the different machines that a company needs to talk to each other. For example, a machine can communicate directly with the warehouse and if there are too few parts, they are automatically reordered. Smart Maintenance" is also part of Industry 4.0, which is all about using huge amounts of data to detect equipment failures early on. By and large, Industry 4.0 makes production more efficient and conserves resources.

New regulations for absence, illness or accident
We have introduced a new regulation, which has already been adapted in the company guide. From now on please adhere to the following:
For planned absence
- Arrangement/information in the team (every absence)
- Track absences in e-mail calendar (all employees with PC access)
In case of accident/illness
- Illness and accidents must be reported by telephone to the supervisor and the personnel department (with all necessary details) by 08.30 a.m.
